How to Stop Overthinking and Start Leading Yourself in Private Practice and Life

If you feel stuck in your head…
constantly replaying scenarios, second-guessing decisions, or waiting for clarity before you act…

You’re not alone.

Overthinking is one of the most common patterns I see in private practice owners and high-achieving entrepreneurs.

But here’s the truth:

Overthinking isn’t the problem.

It’s a symptom.

A symptom of something deeper:

A lack of self-leadership.

The Hidden Reason You’re Overthinking

Most people assume overthinking comes from not knowing what to do.

But that’s rarely the case.

More often, overthinking comes from not trusting yourself to do it.

So instead of moving forward, you:

Replay decisions
Analyze every option
Look for certainty
Delay action

And without realizing it…

You stay stuck.

Not because you don’t have answers.

But because you don’t trust yourself to act on them.

What Self-Leadership Actually Means

Self-leadership is the ability to intentionally lead yourself.

Your thoughts.
Your actions.
Your energy.
Your decisions.

It’s the understanding that:

You create your results.
You have agency over how you show up.
You are responsible for your growth.

And when you operate from self-leadership…

You stop waiting for clarity.

You start creating it.

Self-Awareness: The Foundation of Everything

Self-awareness is the starting point.

Because you can’t change what you don’t see.

When you are self-aware, you begin to understand:

Your patterns
Your triggers
Your behaviors
Your default responses

You can identify:

Why you’re overthinking
What’s driving your hesitation
Where you’re holding yourself back

And that awareness?

Is what gives you the power to shift.

Self-Trust: The Missing Link

If you don’t trust yourself, everything feels harder.

You question your decisions.
You hesitate before taking action.
You look outside yourself for validation.

And that creates a loop:

Less action → less confidence → more overthinking

The way out of that loop?

Build self-trust.

And self-trust is built through one simple practice:

Keeping your word to yourself.

Doing what you say you’re going to do.

Consistently.

That creates evidence.

And evidence builds confidence.

Why Overthinking Keeps You Stuck

Overthinking creates open loops in your brain.

Unresolved situations.
Unfinished decisions.
“What if” scenarios.

Your brain keeps trying to “solve” them…

Which keeps you:

Preoccupied
Stressed
Mentally exhausted

This is where burnout begins — not just from doing too much, but from thinking too much.

How to Break the Overthinking Loop

If you want to stop overthinking, you need to give your brain closure.

Instead of leaving things open-ended, create:

A beginning
A middle
An end

Even if it’s not perfect.

Because once your brain perceives something as complete…

It can move on.

Clarity doesn’t come from endless thinking.

It comes from decisive action.

The Power of Presence

One of the fastest ways to stop overthinking?

Come back to the present moment.

Most overthinking happens when you’re:

In the future (anticipating problems)
Or in the past (replaying events)

But clarity exists in the present.

Presence means:

Being aware of your environment
Being connected to your body
Observing your thoughts without reacting

And when you’re present…

You’re no longer stuck in the loop.

Simple Ways to Get Out of Your Head

If you feel yourself spiraling into overthinking, try this:

Pause.
Step away from screens.
Disconnect from noise.

Go outside.

Use your senses:

What do you see?
What do you hear?
What do you feel?

This grounds your nervous system and interrupts the pattern.

Sometimes the most powerful move you can make…

Is doing nothing.

Becoming HER: The Self-Led CEO

The next-level version of you — the one you’re working toward — doesn’t operate from overthinking.

She:

Trusts herself
Makes decisions
Takes aligned action
Keeps her word

She doesn’t seek constant validation.

She doesn’t get stuck in indecision.

She leads herself.

And that’s what creates momentum.

From Overthinking to Self-Leadership

If you want to stop overthinking, don’t focus on stopping the thoughts.

Focus on becoming the version of you who:

Trusts herself
Leads herself
Acts anyway

Because overthinking fades when self-trust increases.

And self-leadership is what creates:

Clarity
Confidence
Momentum
Growth
