Time Is an Illusion: How to Stop Feeling Like There’s Never Enough

October 09, 20252 min read

“There are not enough hours in the day.”
“I don’t have time for that.”
“Where did all the time go?”

Sound familiar?

We’ve all said these things—sometimes daily. Especially if you’re a business owner, a parent, or someone with a mile-long to-do list. The truth is, it can feel like time is our enemy. Like there’s always more to do and never enough hours to do it.

But what if I told you that time is relative? That time is actually an illusion?

Why Time Scarcity Is a Mindset

The belief that there isn’t enough time is scarcity thinking. It’s a perspective we’ve curated for ourselves without even realizing it. Instead of seeing time as something we control, we treat it as something that controls us.

And when we think of time as our enemy, we stay stuck in burnout.

Here’s a powerful reframe: you are time. You decide how much or how little time something takes based on your perspective.

Parkinson’s Law: Proof That Time Is Flexible

There’s a concept called Parkinson’s Law, which says that work expands to fill the time you give it.

Think about it: if you give yourself 3 hours to write a note, it will take you 3 hours. But if you only allow 30 minutes, you’ll find a way to get it done faster.

Time bends to your expectations. Which means—you’re more in control than you realize.

The #1 Biggest Time-Suck

Want to know the #1 thing that drains the most time out of your day?

📱 Your phone.

We may grab it for a “quick check” and end up scrolling endlessly without even realizing it. Hours lost. Energy drained. And our schedule? Hijacked.

If you want to reclaim time, start by putting your phone down. Even just 1 intentional hour unplugged will amaze you.

A Mantra to Take With You

Whenever you find yourself feeling like time is slipping away, try this mantra:

“Time expands to meet my needs.”

Because it does. And it will—when you shift your perspective.

This is just the beginning. This post is based on Part 1 of a 3-part podcast series on time from The F.E.A.R. Chronicles. In the next two parts, I’ll share practical strategies to plan your schedule around your energy and priorities—so you finally feel like you’re in control of your time.
